Marriage 101

Adjustment....that is the key word for newlyweds!  The famous question after the honeymoon is..."So how are you liking being married?" Being raised in the south, my polite response is, "Marriage is wonderful." Now don't get me wrong, I do love being married because my husband is so good to me, but there are some things I wish I could have been prepared for. However, maybe sink or swim learning is better!
So here are a few things I have had to adjust to along the way...
1.) No sacred space. Bathroom time is no longer a private event. Somethings are just much better when done alone! :)  Also if someone is getting ready in the bathroom, and there is a second bathroom, one would assume they would use that one instead of having a meeting with John where the person is trying to get ready! I guess this is preparing me for children because I can remember barging in on my parents bathroom all the time.
2.)"Honey, I went to the grocery store and got the butter you needed... but I also got brownies, cookies, Ice cream, and cheese danishes...but don't worry they were all on sale..." Good cause that's what we needed!
3.) While drinking coffee in the morning, I like peace and quiet. It's my time to wake up. Not so in marriage. It is the time you can discuss anything from finances to family problems. My brain does not work that well in the morning.
4.) Even though you are now the wife, you are not always the first to know things. For some reason, I thought I would be.
5.) There is apparently a magic fairy that comes and puts the things you place on the counter away.
Thinking back over these now make me laugh. But is definitely took some adjusting.
Maybe you can relate...or maybe you have some word of wisdom.

  1. It's definitely an adjustment! In the movies they always talk about how newlyweds are so in love and googly eyed with each other, but what they didn't tell me is that the first year is really hard! I'm 8 months in and we definitely gotten a lot of the "kinks" out finally. I guess it's all about meeting each other halfway in a lot of places. Kinda like the first few months of dating.
PS-- I don't like people to talk to me in the morning either!!
